Field of Dreams Drive-In owners are featured in new documentary

LIBERTY CENTER, Ohio — Rod and Donna Saunders, owner-operators of the Field of Dreams Drive-In Theater in rural Henry County, are featured in a 2022 documentary called Back to the Drive-In. The 1 hour, 45-minute film is a story about how many Americans temporarily flocked back to drive-in theaters during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, then lost interest again after indoor movie complexes reopened once many of the restrictions were lifted. The Saunders are one of 11 families in eight states that director April Wright has featured. “Despite the renewed attention on drive-ins during COVID, drive-ins are facing many challenges, but these owners are determined to keep their drive-ins alive for future generations,” according to a news release the couple released. “Wright drove from Los Angeles to Cape Cod and back to shoot this new documentary, capturing the current climate of this important slice of Americana.”
