Pella Ambulance Fees for Private Insurance Changes Announced

The Pella City Council was presented with a change in billing related to Pella Community Ambulance at policy and planning this week. The amount all residents with private insurance could pay for a ride to a medical facility is set to increase. Previously as a non-profit organization, Pella Ambulance matched the reimbursements provided by Wellmark for all services as an in-network provider — but the city has since assumed control of the service due to financial issues, in part, compounded by the increased cost of calls not matching the money the group was getting back from all insurers, private and public, according to City Administrator Mike Nardini.

A Strong Bond Leading Eagles Volleyball Towards Best Season since 2016-2017

The Pella Christian volleyball team entered the season with a young team and some big shoes to fill after graduating three starters from a year ago. While it was hard to predict before the season how the youth of the Eagles would fill in those spots, the team has responded with one of their best seasons in recent memory. P.C. currently has their highest winning percentage since the 2016-2017 season and need just one more victory to match last season’s win total. Sophomores Maggie Heinen and Addison Bandstra believe a big reason for the Eagles’ successes this season is the bond the team shares.

Knoxville Volleyball Looking At Saturday Meets For Its Best Competition

The class 4A #14 Knoxville Volleyball Squad will play at the Pella Invitational this Saturday, followed by the Panthers’ own invitational next Saturday. The Panthers for the last several seasons, have used Saturday action to get ready for what they hope is a deep run in the class 4A regionals. Knowing they will likely have to face a ranked team to get to their goal of making the State Tournament, they have upped their Saturday schedule to play more of those 4A and some class 5A squads and have had recent success finishing runner-up at Boone having to beat 5A Ames, and knocked off, at the time #9 Waverly-Shell Rock. Players Emma Dunkin and Payton Horn say the weekend action gives them the best measuring stick of where they are compared to many squads around the area.

City Administrator Mike Nardini presented to the council and mentioned that an engineering study conducted in 2020 found that roughly $5.5 million in repairs and improvements would be needed to extend the life of the community center for about 20 years.
