Off-Duty nurse saves the life of an Oklahoma woman

MIAMI, Okla. – An Ottawa County nurse was recently honored after her heroic efforts saved the life of a woman who nearly drowned. Shyanne Brandon, an INTEGRIS Health Miami Hospital nurse, witnessed a near-drowning incident on July 11 while she was off-duty. She promptly began administering medical aid until emergency medical services arrived on the scene.

Wildcat Glades talks two events happening Friday and Saturday

Former Mini Stop property tank removal underway

The Mini Stop property was acquired by the Girard Land Bank in 2021. Due to a Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) grant, the fuel storage tanks are in the process of being removed. The tanks are being removed by Double Check Company Inc. and the project is expected to be complete in the next two weeks.

Free tree limb and brush drop-off site coming to Joplin

The City of Joplin will open a tree limb and brush drop-off site on Friday, August 19, and Saturday, August 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. This free program is open the third Friday and Saturday of the month from March through October, unless there is a weather event that warrants another date being set.

An area health care worker is being praised for saving a woman’s life while off-duty. Shyanne Brandon, B.S.N., RN, was recently honored by INTEGRIS Health Miami Hospital Chief Executive Jonas Rabel for the life-saving measures she performed while attending as a guest at an employee appreciation event hosted by the Miami Nation’s Prairie Sun and Prairie Moon Casinos.
