RRPD investigating counterfeit case

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying the individual and vehicle in these photos. The police department is currently investigating a case involving counterfeit money. The incident occurred at about 5:53 p.m. on March 29 at a local establishment. The suspect passed a $100 counterfeit bill and then left on what appeared to be a black Audi A4 vehicle. Anyone with information on the identity of the individual and vehicle involved is urged to contact law enforcement. Please contact the RRPD at 252-533-2810, Investigator Sgt. Halifax County amends interlocal agreement with municipalities regarding 911 Center

Monday’s Halifax County Board of Commissioners meeting reconvened on Tuesday. A public hearing of a proposed economic development incentive grant agreement took place Monday without any speakers. The hearing was for a proposed agreement with an unnamed manufacturing company, “Project Big Rock,” in consideration of the company’s operations in the county. Under the terms of the agreement, annual grants would be paid to the company over a period of 10 years in the estimated total amount of $6,240,360.

The Jo Story Senior Center has box fans available to Halifax County residents age 60 and older, or those on disability with a health condition or living situation that puts them at risk for heat-related illnesses. The fans are available through the Operation Fan Heat Relief grant from Dominion Resources, Duke Energy Carolinas, Duke Energy Progress and the Upper Coastal Plain Area Agency on Aging. Recipients must furnish proof of age, current address, disability documentation (if applicable) and a recent electric bill in the fan recipient’s name. Fans are available for pick up from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday at the senior center, 701 Jackson St. in Roanoke Rapids. George Wayne Long, 72, of Halifax died Thursday June 17, 2021 at his home with his family by his side. Wayne was born in Halifax County to the late George Franklin and Gladys Rachel Davis Long.
