City of Sidney welcomes Fall season in big way

SIDNEY, Neb. — Oktoberfest in the Panhandle is more than a seasonal beer. The annual Oktoberfest celebration started in Sidney Friday afternoon when the committee tapped the keg at 12 p.m. and provided Oktoberfest beer for the community. A variety of food was served at the fairgrounds. The celebration features different activities, live music and a craft fair.

Bayard improves to 17-1 in clean sweep of Potter-Dix triangular

POTTER - Kierra Miller eclipsed 2,000 career assists and the Bayard volleyball team finished 2-0 in the Potter-Dix Triangular Tuesday night in Potter. The Tigers swept both South Platte and Potter-Dix. 6'0" junior Danika Hassel finished with 12 kills, a block and two ace serves. Joslyn Hopkins and Lexi Fiscus each had seven kills. Results: Tanquary 4th at UNK Invite

KEARNEY - Tallissa Tanquary led the Sidney Girls Cross Country team to a 12th place finish out of 21 teams at the UNK High School Invitational Cross Country meet on Monday. The junior traversed the Kearney Country Club course in 20:24.3 to finish fourth in the Class C Girls 5000 Meter race. Sidney senior Rheo Dykstra made the top-50 crossing the finish line in 44th out of 166 runners in a time of 22:56.5.

CCS volleyball battles ranked opponents

The Chase County volleyball team saw its fair share of quality opponents last week, starting Sept. 20 with a trip to Sidney. Sidney (14-3) is ranked ninth in Class B. In the first set, CCS trailed by one point, 4-5, before a seven-point run by the Raiders put the set out of reach. The Longhorns pulled to within four points, 17-21, but dropped the set 19-25. CCS Head Coach April Lambert said the Longhorns’ offense started a bit slowly the first set.

ALLIANCE – The Alliance Invitational and Western Conference Girls Golf tournaments were played at Sky View Golf Course in Alliance on Monday.
