Bradenton man dies when pickup goes into ditch

BRADENTON, Fla. (WWSB) - A 65-year-old man died in a one-vehicle crash Thursday night in South Bradenton, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Troopers say the man left the Cortez Village Plaza parking lot at about 11:30 p.m., in his pickup truck, drove across the travel lanes of Cortez Road West and onto the south shoulder. The pickup traveled down an embankment and into a drainage ditch.

Two killed, children in hospital after St. Petersburg crash

Two people are dead and others, including children, were injured Friday after a a crash on Tyrone Boulevard, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department. A car crashed off Tyrone Boulevard North near the intersection with Norfolk Street North around 12:52 p.m. Friday, sending several people including children to an area hospital, police said. The crash also occurred near St. Petersburg Catholic High School.

DeSantis To Sign Executive Order Preventing School Mask Mandates

Gov. Ron DeSantis said Friday he will issue an executive order to prohibit school districts from imposing mask-wearing requirements as students return to classes in August. Scoffing at revised COVID-19 guidance from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, DeSantis questioned potential health effects of forcing students to wear masks for hours at a time and said parents should be allowed to decide whether their children use face coverings.

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) - Two people were injured Thursday night in Manatee County when their motorcycle hit a parked car, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Investigators say a pickup truck was angle parked and unoccupied, facing west along 61st Street East, near 28th Avenue East. Two people were riding a motorcycle eastbound at about 10:25 p.m., when they collided with the pickup.
