4-H Members attend Congress

Two Grundy County 4-H members enjoyed a fun-filled week at State 4-H Congress, held in Murfreesboro and Nashville. Anya Baker and Grace Spicer, both tenth graders at Grundy County High School, spent the week learning about leadership, government, and Tennessee history. The teens enjoyed a trip to the Capitol and learned how a bill becomes a law. They also met with legislators and had the opportunity to ask them various questions. We would like to thank the Monteagle Sunday School Assembly for their continued support in sending Grundy County 4-Hers to 4-H Congress.

Change to SR 50 intersection stops locals in their tracks

The intersection of SR 2 (US 41) and SR 50 in Pelham has been the subject of public concern for years. Recently, the intersection was changed from a two-way stop to a four-way stop with little to no notice. The public and county officials are not convinced that this change will make the intersection safer, though numerous traffic studies completed by the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) have repeatedly found that the crossing does not meet the criteria warranting a traffic light.

Dangerous intersection changes signage

The intersection of U.S. Highway 41 and State Highway 50 is known to be a dangerous one. For years travelers were made aware of the crossing with a yellow flashing light and signs to alert drivers on Hwy 50 that those traveling on US 41 are not required to stop and to use caution crossing the road. Though drivers on Hwy 50 are required to stop and two very large traffic signs are installed on the road, there have been numerous accidents due to drivers running the stop sign or not looking before entering traffic.
