Operation Move-In starts this weekend, GS asking for help

Georgia Southern University Housing needs help this weekend as they welcome more than 5,000 students to live on their campuses in this year’s Operation Move-In. Operation Move-In is the official start to the fall semester at GS’ Statesboro and Savannah campuses. Students are welcomed into the residence halls and prepare to kick off the academic year.

EGSC moves onto GS campus in Bobcat to Eagle transfer program

Georgia Southern will add East Georgia State College to its Statesboro campus in-time for the new year making it easier for students. In November 2018, East Georgia State College and Georgia Southern University announced that EGSC would move its campus into the Nessmith-Lane Continuing Education Building. Similarly, the functions of Continuing Education at Georgia Southern University will move to the EGSC campus on Highway 301 South. EGSC’s move to the Georgia Southern campus is scheduled to be complete by January 2022.

One More Day of High Heat and possibility of late afternoon severe storms for Bulloch

The National Weather Service in Charleston is predicting one more day of high heat on Sunday, August 1, 2021. This caps three days of intense heat for our area. Heat indices are forecast to possibly reach near 110 degrees. There is also a possibility of later afternoon severe storms. The NWS has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Southeast Georgia, including Bulloch for today and into next week.

COVID spread in Georgia driving patients to urgent care, hospitals

Georgia’s COVID spread case numbers jumped by 4,800 in the state figures reported Thursday, continuing a recent upswing that’s apparently fueled by the Delta variant. “It is believed that the Delta variant is highly prevalent throughout Georgia,” said Dr. Charles Ruis, health director in the Southwest Health District, which is based in Albany. “The best way to prevent a COVID-related death is to get vaccinated, and vaccines are widely available in our region.”

Wednesday Update: Hospitals, providers reporting surge of COVID-19

Hospitals throughout our region are reporting a surge of COVID-19 cases over the last few weeks. East Georgia Regional Medical Center reported 20 COVID-19 patients Wednesday – 4 of which are on vents. Bulloch EMS is reporting high call volume of potential COVID patients. Many area hospitals have been in and out of diversion due to the new influx of COVID patients on top of other patients.
