The Lettermen finish 2022 MRAC season with a bang

The 2022 season for the Meherrin River Arts Club concluded on Saturday night. Dozens packed the auditorium at Greensville Elementary School as legendary pop vocalist group The Lettermen — consisting of Donovan Tea, Rob Gulack, and Bobby Poynton — delighted the crowd with a delightful performance of hits dating back to the 1960s.

CHAT group, Greensville County installing brand new playground

Last Tuesday, the Greensville County School Board unanimously approved a plan to install a new playground courtesy of the Community Health Action Team and Greensville County. The playground is the second in the community spearheaded by CHAT. The first was installed three years ago at the Veterans Memorial Park-Meherrin River Trail site in a dual effort with the City of Emporia. The new playground will be erected near the high school track by the tennis courts.

Greensville County now offering “Hope Cards” for victims of domestic abuse

For victims of domestic and family violence in this area, there is now a ray of hope, and it comes in the form of a laminated card. Domestic/family violence victims in Emporia and Greensville County can now apply for a “Hope Card” — a special identification card which contains information about whatever protective orders the person has obtained from the court system.

First Washington Park Clean up Day a rousing success

On April 23, Washington Park LLC and We Got Your Back Mentorship held their first Community Clean-Up Day. It was a significant success. About 15-20 kids came out to participate. They did a fantastic job; they cleared two whole streets and many ditches within just one hour of working as a team.

Another delay in skill games lawsuit

It will be another six months before a judge helps settle questions about skill games machines in Virginia. A Greensville County judge last weekend moved a scheduled May 18 hearing on a lawsuit back until November. When the suit was introduced earlier this year, the judge issued an injunction, which allowed skill games to continue operating until a final ruling was made. That injunction will be extended as well. That means skill games that were covered under the injunction will be able to operate in Virginia at least until November.
