A Long Island man admitted in court Monday to beating two of his nephews so severely that one lost his leg — and to fleeing the country after his arrest in the case. Carlos Ortega of Central Islip pleaded guilty to viciously attacking two of his relatives with a metal pipe and escaping to Guatemala, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney said Tuesday. Man arrested after allegedly fleeing hit and run in stolen vehicle

Suffolk County Police arrested a New Jersey man Sept. 27 after he was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run crash and then stole another vehicle to flee the scene. Jayson Merceda was driving a 2021 BMW on Charlemagne Drive in Nesconset when he crashed the vehicle into the home at 4 Charlemagne Drive at approximately 1 a.m. A resident of a nearby home came outside when he heard the crash, and while he was outside, Merceda allegedly entered the man’s home, stole a set of car keys and then stole the man’s 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe.

Three New Officers to Join MPD Ranks

Three new officers will be joining the ranks of the Madison Police Department (MPD) following completion of six-months of police academy training. According to Public Information Officer Lt. Jeremy Yorke, candidates for police positions in Connecticut must first apply to a local department, get hired, and then they are sent to the Academy. Previously, candidates would complete Academy training and then go out and seek employment, according to Yorke.

New York Police Officers Help Bald Eagle In Time Of Need

This kind of feels like a metaphor for America as we seem to be are colliding into all kinds of things. We need to be rescued but we need help from a higher authority. Last week, police from Suffolk County came to the rescue of a bald eagle that was on the highway after it had collided with a truck. A good Samaritan woman saw a low-flying bald eagle strike the top of a truck on the highway and called 911.

Wedding guests try to save man who drove SUV into water at Connecticut marina

A 76-year-old man has died after driving his SUV into the water at a marina in Old Saybrook, Connecticut, despite efforts by witnesses to save him. The man has been identified as Steven Mark Wahle. The Old Saybrook Police Department got a 911 call at 10.12pm on Saturday, saying that a car had driven into the waters behind the Saybrook Point Inn Resort and Marina. Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Suffolk County Police Major Case Unit detectives are seeking to identify and locate the man who robbed an Elwood bank February. A man entered the TD Bank at 1941 Jericho Turnpike, on Feb. 4 at approximately 3:55 p.m. He approached a teller and demanded that she place cash in a small black leather organizer.
