ST. JOHN — Lynn Leon Aumiller, age 81, passed away peacefully at his home on July 24, 2021. He was born in Hoxie, Kan. on March 30, 1940 to Calvin and Bessie Aumiller. Lynn graduated in 1958 from Radium High School. He married Shirley Mawhirter on May 6, 1962. She preceded him in death on May 19, 2017.

Michael V. Grill Sr. 1947 - 2021

HOISINGTON — Michael V. Grill Sr., 73, died July 22, 2021, at his home in Hoisington. He was born Nov. 28, 1947, in Salina, Kan., the son of Paul and Hannah (Holcolm) Grill. Michael graduated in 1965, from Fairfield High School, Langdon, Kan. He then served as a mechanic in the Army during the Vietnam War. He later returned as a civilian to work at Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp as a correctional officer.

Robby Steinhardt, Violinist and Co-Founder of Kansas Has Died, Age 71

Robby Steinhardt, who helped create the iconic sound of Progressivle Rock greats Kansas has died. He was 71. He passed away on Saturday, July 17th, 2021 of complications from acute pancreatitis. A classically trained violinist, Kansas native song who named the band and sang harmony vocals on all of the bands’ biggest songs, including “Carry on Wayward Son,” “Dust in the Wind” and “Point of Know Return.” Steinhardt relocated to the bay area in the early 1980s and with guitarist Rick Moon formed the band Steinhardt-Moon, which morphed into Stormbringer. Over the years he re-joined the other founding members of Kansas for reunion tours and albums. Robby’s family shared a message with the news of his passing.

Kansas singer, violinist Robby Steinhardt has died at 71

Robby Steinhardt, the co-lead vocalist of Kansas whose violin playing helped give the band its distinctive sound, died Saturday from a combination of acute pancreatitis and sceptic shock, his wife, Cindy Steinhardt, said Monday. He was 71. Robby Steinhardt had been in a Tampa hospital since May 13, and he suffered a second, fatal sepsis infection July 17, a day before he was scheduled to be transferred to a rehab center, his wife said in a social media post.

Robert E. “Robby” Steinhardt, a violinist and vocalist with the progressive rock band Kansas, has died due to complications from pancreatitis. He was 71. His wife, Cindy Steinhardt, said he died Saturday at a hospital in Tampa, Florida. She announced via Facebook on Monday (July 19) that he had just recorded his first solo album and had been looking forward to being back on stage and going on tour.

Robby Steinhardt, a founding member, co-lead singer and violinist of the rock band Kansas, died July 17, 2021. His death, at age 71, was revealed by his wife, Cindy, today (July 19). The musician had been admitted to Tampa General hospital on May 13, suffering from acute pancreatitis. He never fully recovered. On the day he was to be moved to a rehabilitation center, a fever set in. Steinhardt was able to greet his wife and daughter, but he passed minutes later.

Sister Marie Antoinette Klein 1927 - 2021

Sister Marie Antoinette Klein, 93, died July 17, 2021, in the Dominican Sisters’ convent infirmary, Great Bend. She was born Aug. 20, 1927, in Dodge City, Kan., the daughter of Anthony and Mary Hoffman Klein. She entered the Dominican Sisters Community in 1944 and pronounced her vows in 1946. Sister Marie Antoinette ministered as a music educator, serving as a piano teacher and organist from 1946-2017. She retired at the motherhouse in Great Bend, but even then she continued to serve as organist for many years.

ELLINWOOD — Ethel Francis Ringwald, age 98, passed away at Ellinwood District Hospital on July 18, 2021. She was born on Sept. 25, 1922 in Ellinwood, Kan. to parents David F. and Francis (Sprinker) Hammeke. Ethel grew up on a farm near Ellinwood later graduating from Ellinwood High school in 1940. She married Wessel Ringwald on Feb. 18, 1946 in Ellinwood, Kan. They lived and farmed near Bushton for 35 years before moving to Ellinwood in 1980. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Altar society and other clubs in the area.

Helen M. Pelton

Helen M. Pelton, 100, was born April 7, 1921, in Hoisington, KS, the first of four children, to Harry and Meta Anna (Gerndt) Hall. She grew up in Kansas living in Hoisington where her family farmed, later moving to Hodgeman, Kansas, where she attended Holbrook Elementary School. Helen moved back to Hoisington and lived with her Aunt Amy and Uncle Jess Hall to finish high school, graduating from Hoisington High School in 1939. She then attended college at South Western College, a private Methodist college, in Winfield, KS. After attending college for two years, she went to work in Wichita, KS for Cessna Air Craft where she became a certified welder. Cessna moved their welding department to Hutchinson, KS so she moved with her job. While working for Cessna, an experienced welder took her under his wing and helped her through the ranks. That experienced welder would become the love of her life, Earl C. Pelton. On August 28, 1944, she married Earl in Hutchinson, KS. On that day, Helen not only got a husband, she also got a son, Larry E. Pelton. Helen and Earl celebrated 67 years of love and life together.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Warren Janke, 71, passed away June 25, 2021 in Albuquerque. Born in Great Bend, Kan., the son of Raymond and Ruth Janke, he spent his early years growing up on the family farm. He attended Claflin schools and graduated from Kansas State University with a BS degree in Building Construction. Following participation in AFROTC he entered the United States Air Force and was stationed at bases in the United States and a tour in Japan where he met his wife Regina. While in the Air Force he worked in the Civil Engineering Squadrons. Following honorable discharge from the AF, he returned to complete a Master’s of Science Degree in Building.

Barton Community College natural gas instructor Shawgi Ahmed worked for the Ministry of Oil in Sudan for 16 years as a Senior Project Engineer until his passion for education brought him all the way to the center of the United States to share his knowledge in 2019. He holds a wealth of experience in the field and a doctorate in petroleum engineering. He is a skilled researcher and several of his articles have been published, but teaching is what truly inspires him.
