Maxey House Hosts Photography and Archeology Events

PARIS, Texas –– Sam Bell Maxey House State Historic Site is hosting two community events in early October: East Texas Photography on Friday the 7th and Archeology Day on Saturday the 8th. The East Texas Photography event will exhibit the photography of Paris locals Donna Spurgin of Angel Girl Photography and Troy Phoenix. Rarely seen Maxey Collection photographs will also be on display and staff will be available to discuss how historians and museums use photography to interpret history. The East Texas Photography event is at 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Friday, October 7. Tickets are $5 (cash preferred) and includes a self-guided tour of the house.

Paris Police Report For Wednesday (Sep 21)

Paris Police responded to a theft in the 3800-block of Lamar Ave at 10:33 am Tuesday. Officers observed a male and female loading items into their vehicle from a grocery cart, and employees advised that they hadn’t paid for it. The two were detained and had stolen over $600 worth of items. Both were arrested and charged with theft. During the investigation, Misty Michelle Hayes, 43, of Paris, had at least two convictions for theft. Officers enhanced the charge to a felony. Both were later transferred to the Lamar County Jail.

Paris Police Report For Tuesday (Sep 20)

Paris Police stopped a vehicle in the 500-block of W. Sherman at 3:55 Monday afternoon for displaying expired registration. One of the occupants identified themselves by giving a false name. Officers later identified Jerome Everidge Tennon, 37, of Paris, who had felony warrants out of Lamar County. One warrant charged Tennon with manufacturing or delivering a controlled substance of more than one gram; the other was a probation violation warrant on possession of a held substance conviction. They booked Tennon and transferred him to the Lamar County Jail.
