Clarinda Native, Former Northwest Football Player & Ex-Kearney Teacher Pleads Not Guilty To Sexual Misconduct

LIBERTY, Mo. (AP) — A former Kearney High School math teacher has pleaded not guilty to sexual misconduct charges. Thirty-year-old Bryant Hummel was in court Monday after being charged last month with exposing himself to two 17-year-old female students he was supposed to be helping with homework assignments after school. Hummel is originally from Clarinda, Iowa and a former Northwest Missouri State football player. According to a probable cause statement, Hummel also threatened to ruin the girls’ sports careers and fail them in class if they reported the incident. The girls told investigators Hummel later asked them to come to his home. School officials alerted police to the complaints in April.

Savannah Man Arrested on Multiple Charges

A Savannah man was arrested Tuesday morning in west central Missouri’s Bates County on a number of charges including drug possession and fleeing from police. Troop A of the Missouri State Highway Patrol says 31-year-old Aaron S. Abbott was arrested at 11:13 A.M. on charges of felony possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest by fleeing, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, careless and imprudent driving, failing to display valid plates, and following too closely.

Cameron Man Arrested On Warrant

A Cameron man was arrested on a misdemeanor warrant out of Buchanan County Tuesday evening in Clinton County. Troop H of the Highway Patrol reports the arrest of 33-year-old Cameron resident James F. Dill at 5:15 Tuesday evening on an outstanding warrant from the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office. Online court records show that warrant was for failing to appear in a non-support case dating back to September 2020.

Lathrop man seriously injured in Clay County accident Monday

CLAY COUNTY, Mo. — A Lathrop man was seriously injured in a Clay County accident Monday night. According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Donnie E. Scott, 35, was driving a Honda Elantra northbound on Interstate 35, at the 27.6 mile marker, at 8:44 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25. His vehicle traveled into the center median, continued down an embankment and into a creek bed. Scott was transported by Kearney EMS to Liberty Hospital in serious condition.
