The Ogallala Aquifer: The past, the present, and the future of agriculture

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The Ogallala Aquifer has fueled irrigation systems essential for the High Plains to stand resilient against historic drought conditions throughout the last century, allowing for prosperity in a region not naturally friendly to many crops or agricultural developments. However, researchers and data have shown the aquifer is a finite resource that could see its end within the next generation.

The Ogallala Aquifer: When will the wells run dry? What, then?

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – Parched for months, fired by yet another unforgiving heatwave, piled with wind-scattered topsoil and ash, the hard-packed clay of the High Plains resembled less a wide open collection of prairies in July than it did a vast earthenware ashtray. Even when sporadic storm systems flooded the occasional creek or roadway, the […]

Letter to the Editor - 7/28/22

Let me start by saying please vote on August 2. It’s important! Probably the question I’ve been asked the most recently is what is my reason for running for commissioner? This really wasn’t something I was thinking about early in the year and then as deadline approached to file, I began to get calls from numerous people asking me to please run. When I asked them why should I run? They all had their own reasons why and they were different from one another. People weren’t happy with how things were going!

I work night shift at the hotel here in town! I was just doing my nightly duties and overthinking my life choices as usual. My perception of hope and growth have been fragmented into shards and carefully analyzed these past few weeks. It’s been a struggle as if my world did a 180 in a matter of second. When i saw the heart laying there it didn’t immediately catch my eye. i actually had walked past it and turned around to get a better glance. When i saw the little butterfly and read the note i lit up inside as a big smile crossed my face. Butterflies symbolize hope and transformation. New beginnings and rebirth! i personally thank you as this quilted heart reopened my eyes and gave me hope again to stand tall through the darkest of times!
