Volunteers building tiny homes for Veterans Village

Just up I-95 on a pleasant, sunny Saturday morning, a cacophony of hammers, drills and other sounds of construction filled the air around a church in Townsend. These noises indicated real progress that’s being made on the Golden Isles Veterans Village, which will once completed offer 30 tiny houses to homeless veterans in Glynn County along with wrap-around services intended to help individuals successfully reintegrate themselves back into society.

STUDENT VOICES: UGA students talk Frat Beach alcohol ban

In September, the Glynn County Commission reintroduced last year’s temporary alcohol ban on St. Simons Island’s East Beach, commonly known among University of Georgia football fans as “Frat Beach.” The ban will go into effect for Oct. 29 and 30, the weekend Georgia faces off against the University of Florida Gators. Officials hope “to discourage big crowds amid a high rate of coronavirus infections,” according to Action News Jax.

Judge Rules ‘Justice For Ahmaud’ Signs Can Remain Outside Courthouse

Superior Court Judge Timothy Walmsley has ruled that citizens carrying “Justice For Ahmaud [Arbery]” signs and wearing “Justice For Ahmaud” t-shirts can remain outside the Glynn County courthouse during the jury selection process. While dozens of supporters have shown up outside the courthouse throughout the jury selection process, Walmsley stated that it has been “relatively quiet on the courthouse steps.”

The Glynn County Finance Committee agreed to recommend approval Tuesday to increase the budget to repair the Spur 25/Altama Connector intersection.
