Murfreesboro schools earn Apple Distinguished School honors again

There are only five schools in Arkansas that have earned the designation of being an Apple Distinguished School (ADS) and two of them are in Murfreesboro. The South Pike County School District held a tour and assembly last week to celebrate Murfreesboro High School’s third straight time to earn the honor and the second straight time for Murfreesboro Elementary School. The state’s other ADS campuses include Cross County Elementary Technology Academy and Cross County High School, both in Cherry Valley, and Fox Meadow School of Creative Media in Jonesboro.

Man who threatened mayors arrested again

62-year-old Maverick Bryan of Nashville made threats against several Arkansas mayors in 2015 including the mayors of Ashdown, De Queen, and Hope. A Howard County deputy initiated the stop for speeding, but after an alert by a K-9 unit, deputies searched Bryan's vehicle. Officers found a pistol in the console and, after confirming that Bryan had a felony on his record, arrested him.

For the Week in Clark County History, we combed through bound copies of the Daily Siftings Herald to choose some front-page news from editions dating 10, 15 and 20 years ago. A dive team located two vehicles submerged in Nowlin Pond. The first vehicle had been immediately reported to police when its driver left it unattended at the boat ramp to fish at a nearby bank. During the recovery of that vehicle, the dive team discovered a second vehicle, which had been reported stolen in 2008.

Man who threatened mayors in 2015 arrested again

NASHVILLE – A Howard County man who threatened several southwest Arkansas mayors in 2015, including the mayors of Prescott and Hope, has been arrested again. Maverick Bryan, 62, with a rural Nashville address, has been charged in Howard County Circuit Court with Possession of Firearms by Certain Persons following an October 23rd traffic stop.

Murfreesboro resident arrested in Nashville and charged with drug possession

On November 6th, Nashville Patrol Officer Dustin Wakefield responded to a call about a suspicious person at Wal-Mart. The employee that called said the suspect had been in the parking lot for approximately 3 hours in a black Chevrolet pickup.
