General election race set for City Commission

Three incumbents and three others are advancing from Tuesday's primary for the Leavenworth City Commission to the general election. According to unofficial results from the County Clerk's Office, candidates Jermaine Wilson, Mike Griswold, Edd Hingula, Griff Martin, Mark Preisinger and Maren Hart will advance to the Nov. 2 general election. They advance from a pool of 11 primary candidates.

Homicide: Man, woman found dead in Kan. apartment

KANSAS CITY, Kan.—Law enforcement authorities investigating the death of a man and woman at a Kansas City, Kansas apartment complex say it is now a homicide investigation. On July 29, police conducted a welfare check at the Cambridge at River Oaks Apartments, N. 70th and Riverview at the request of family members, according to a media release.

Blue Springs School District voters easily approve school additions, improvements

Blue Springs School District voters overwhelmingly approved a large bond issue as well as a levy transfer Tuesday. The $107 million bond issue, which includes a new set of freshman classrooms at Blue Springs High School, received 82 percent approval – 3,530 yes votes to 765 no votes and safely above even the two-thirds majority required to pass. It will not raise property taxes because it’s within the district’s bonding capacity.

Clay County crash is fatal for Excelsior Springs man, injures two from Richmond

CLAY COUNTY, Mo. — A Clay County accident was fatal for an Excelsior Springs man, Sunday night, and injured two others from Richmond. According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Jeremiah J. Hanke, 32, of Excelsior Springs, was driving on U.S. Route 69, at Stockdale Road, at 10:50 p.m. Sunday, August 1. He failed to yield and pulled out in front of a vehicle being driven by Billy R. French, 67, of Richmond. French’s Kia struck the passenger side of Hanke’s Oldsmobile. French was moderately injured. His passenger, Sheila G. French, 63, was seriously injured. Both were transported by Excelsior Springs EMS to Liberty Hospital for treatment. Hanke died at the scene and was transported by Frontier Forensics Midwest.
