Georgia State coach Shawn Elliott insinuates that SEC officiating crew helped Auburn with questionable late call, review

Georgia State coach Shawn Elliott has joined a growing list of teams and coaches that have a gripe with SEC officiating. The Panthers coach referred to a catch by John Samuel Shenker on Auburn's game winning TD drive late in Saturday's comeback win for the Tigers on The Plains. Shenker made a 19-yard catch that created first down from the Georgia State 11-yard line for Auburn, who was down 24-19 to its Sun Belt opponent with 73 seconds left.

What they’re saying nationally after Auburn’s late rally, QB change vs. Georgia State

What was set to be a final tune-up before the start of SEC play turned into a dramatic and quite eventful homecoming for Auburn on Saturday. After trailing by 12 at halftime, Auburn rallied to defeat Georgia State, 34-24, thanks to some late-game heroics by LSU transfer quarterback T.J. Finley, who replaced third-year starter Bo Nix late in the third quarter. Finley’s late touchdown pass to Shedrick Jackson, paired with Smoke Monday’s pick-six -- both of which came in the game’s final minute -- helped the Tigers avoid disaster against the Panthers.

Georgia State coach blasts SEC refs for saving Auburn Tigers with home cooking

Georgia State Panthers head coach Shawn Elliott called out SEC officials for giving the Auburn Tigers some home cooking on Saturday night. The Panthers were trying to upset the 23rd-ranked Tigers at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Georgia State led by five points late in the fourth quarter when Auburn quarterback TJ Finley hit John Samuel Shenker on a 19-yard pass to set up a first-and-goal. A review seemed to show the ball hitting the turf, but it was still ruled a catch. The Tigers then scored the game-winning touchdown with 45 seconds left and ultimately won, 34-24.
