"I believe that their rights matter and my rights matter," Kozak said. "Their lives matter and they might need an abortion someday, medically or even if they just want one, and they deserve that choice."

The Genesee County Branch of the Democratic Socialists held a rally in front of Batavia City Hall Sunday afternoon to protest the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v Wade and Planned Parenthood v Casey. The decision sends the abortion debate back to the states to decide what to make legal and illegal. Previously the court decisions established a trimester system and stopped states from making any laws that prohibited abortion in the first 12 weeks and allowed regulation but not outright bans in the second trimester. In New York Aborotion is legal up to the birth of the baby as long as a medical professional deems it necessary. The protesters held signs saying slogans such as “my body my choice,” “Pro life is not pro birth,” and “abortion is healthcare” along with many signs accusing pro life people of racism among other things.
