Arrest Made In Junction City Death

An arrest has been made in a shooting death in Junction City late last week. Friday afternoon, the Junction City Police Department received a 911 call reporting shots fired. Upon arrival, officers found one victim with a gunshot wound who was transported to Geary County Community Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

BOE approves contract with First Transportation Solutions

Geary USD 475 Board of Education has entered into a contract with First Transportation Solutions to provide a district transportation efficiency study to help the district with its’ procurement effort. This study would focus on bus routing plans, fleet use maximization, financial and management recommendations, labor and staffing considerations, enrollment opinions, contracting versus in-house performance options, and school boundary recommendations.

Strengthening Families: Course helps improve communication between youth, adults

Deb Andres, a K-State Research and Extension family and consumer sciences agent in Geary County, hopes to help families go heavy on the ‘love’ part. USD 475 saves millions of dollars by reducing energy usage

GEARY COUNTY, Kan. – By working diligently and partnering with Cenergistic, Geary County Schools USD 475 has saved $4,061,471 in energy usage since 2015. According to a USD 475 new release, Cenergistic’s Energy Management Specialist David Wert has been assigned to advise the district and monitor the energy usage, with frequent audits and inspections of each facility within the district. “Cenergistic is proving itself to be a partner to more than energy savings and cost avoidance. Two recent examples include a walk-through of the H.D. Karns building during spring break. He discovered a roof leak over the main gym. It was determined that he found it within a couple hours of its occurrence, and his timely report to maintenance staff saved thousands of dollars in damage to the gym floor,” said David Wild, chief operations officer for the district.

One dead in shooting at JC barbershop Friday

The Junction City Police Department reported a shooting that resulted in one fatality at Elite Cuts Barber Shop at 719 West Sixth Street. Officers responded to a report of shots fired at 3:46 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found one victim with a gunshot wound and transported him to Geary County Community Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
