Garland is a city in the U.S. state of Texas. It is located northeast of Dallas and is a part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. It is located almost entirely within Dallas County, except a small portion located in Collin and Rockwall counties. At the 2010 census, the city had a population of 226,876. In 2019, the population rose to 239,928, making it the 93rd-most populous city in the United States of America and the 12th-most populous city in Texas. Garland is second only to the city of Dallas in Dallas County by population and has easy access to downtown Dallas via public transportation including two Dart Blue Line stations and buses.

Garland Celebrates Juneteenth

On June 19 at Audubon Park, Garland put its own stamp on the celebration of Juneteenth. The Juneteenth Committee’s vision came to life as dancers, speakers and vendors assembled at the park. Many children played games; a select few were honored as winners of the Juneteenth essay contest. At the request of one committee member, the Buster Brown Band reunited on site, coming from as far away as Colorado to play together for the first time since 2015.

Downtown Construction Update: Main Street Reopens, Parking Available

Construction on the Downtown Square is progressing to Phase 2! Despite a few supply chain issues, Main Street has just reopened, with construction moving to State Street. State Street between Sixth and Fifth streets, including the entire intersection at Fifth Street, is scheduled to close Monday, June 27. The businesses will remain open and so will the adjacent sidewalks. This section of State Street will be closed for approximately five to six months as construction continues. State Street between Sixth and Seventh streets remains closed to through traffic for the next couple of weeks, but parking is available.
