CC)—The Enid Mayor and Board of Commissioners will meet this evening. During the meeting, commissioners are scheduled to approve the city’s FY 2022-2023 budget, and approve fee changes for building and other construction related permits. Prior to the regular meeting, commissioners will meet in study session where they will discuss the Garfield County Detention Facility’s needs and a possible Sales Tax Election, as well as discuss Parks and Rec’s 5-year plan. The study session will begin at 5:00 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 6:30. Both meetings will be held in Council Chambers of the City Administration Building on West Garriott, and are open to the public.

IW)--Crews are doing utility maintenance at the Oakwood Road and Garriott Road intersection prompting lane closures and a 4-way stop. The westbound left turning lane and the southbound right turning lane will be closed during this work effort. Work is expected to be complete by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Motorists are encouraged to follow posted traffic control signs and to drive with extreme caution in this area.

CW)--An Enid woman was charged in Garfield County District Court this week after reportedly attempting to take a young girl from a local park last week. 40 year-old Veronica Perez, 40, is facing charges of alleged attempted kidnapping and obstructing an Enid Police Department officer after being arrested near Champion Park on April 26. Enid News and Eagle reports EPD responded to a call in the 900 block of East Chestnut after being told a woman was attempting to take children while claiming to be their mother. Witnesses told police Perez had been acting strange and had grabbed a girl by the arm and attempted to take the child with her. Police located Perez in the area and after talking with her placed her under arrest. According to the report, Perez appeared confused and disoriented in her conversation. Perez was booked into Garfield County Detention Facility. Her bond was set at $100,000.

During the regular meeting, the commission is expected to consider the sale of the Great Plains Bank building in the 400 block of West Broadway, which the city has owned since December 2020. In other business, commissioners are scheduled to make appointments to a couple of citizen advisory boards, address a number of business items, and meet in executive session to discuss recent policy changes at the Public Library of Enid and Garfield County. Prior to the regular meeting, the commission will meet in study session and discuss the proposed 2022-23 City of Enid budget, and revisions to building permit fees. The study session will begin at 5:00 p.m, with the regular meeting following at 6:30. Both meetings will be held in Council Chambers and are open to the public.

Loved Ones Hold Memorial For 2-Year-Old Murder Victim

Folks from near and far gathered in Downtown Enid to celebrate the life of Caliyah Guyton, a two-year-old that was killed earlier this week. A display sits on the front lawn of the Garfield County Courthouse bringing awareness to child abuse. Each face represents a victim of abuse, Caliyah Guyton is now one of them. Her mother Chelsey Guyton said she's heartbroken.

Library Awarded Park Avenue Grant

ENID, OK (April 28, 2022) - The Public Library of Enid & Garfield County was awarded a $5,523.65 grant from Park Avenue Thrift in Enid. The Park Avenue Grant proceeds will go towards four special events during the library’s annual summer reading program as well as the purchase of children’s books. This year’s summer reading theme is Oceans of Possibilities, and the program kicks off on Friday, June 3rd during the First Friday event in Enid.
