Fireworks canceled, but still lots of fun planned for Independence Day

Due to extreme fire danger, Rifle has canceled the annual July 3rd fireworks show, the city announced Tuesday. “Conditions in the area have not improved since June 18 when Garfield County implemented Stage 1 fire restrictions,” the city stated in a news release. “Those restrictions are applicable to the city of Rifle through Rifle Municipal Code 10-10-40(e).”

Rifle Garfield County Airport to host Air Force Reserve training event

Military aircraft ground fueling exercises slated for Sept. 12-15 The Air Force Reserve is conducting a special fuel operation training exercise at the Rifle Garfield County Airport from Sept. 12 through 15. More than 50 military ground crew are scheduled to take part in the training exercise, which takes place on the ramp and not in the air, though military aircraft are to be stationed at the airport.

Garfield County Public Health, together with Grand River Health and Valley View, hosted a press conference on July 22 to discuss trends that prompted the county to move back to “yellow” on the COVID dial. In summary, areas with lower vaccination rates are seeing higher rates of cases requiring hospitalization. Colorado currently has the second highest rate of the Delta variant in the country and Garfield County reported five COVID-related deaths since the beginning of May, including two “breakthrough” cases among older people who had been fully vaccinated.
