Northern California tallies up rain and snow totals after the first storm

CALIFORNIA, USA — A strong cold winter storm nailed Northern California with impressive totals of both rain and snow. In the Sierra on Friday morning, many ski resorts reported more than a foot of snow. Kirkwood is reporting 19 inches of snow, Palisades Tahoe is reporting 20 inches of snow and Northstar is reporting 22 inches of snow. In the Central Sierra, Mammoth is reporting 23 inches of snow and Dodge Ridge is reporting 8 inches so far.

Hawk Girls basketball dedicates season to Messersmith

The Liberty Ranch girls’ basketball team started off the season by dominating Edison high school 54-32. While the win was sweet, the biggest fan was missing from the bleachers. Todd Messersmith, who has coached most of these girls in the past, passed away from cancer last year right after the season ended with a league championship, the first for the Liberty ladies.

High clouds streamed over northern California Friday during a brief break from our welcome wet weather pattern. Clouds bearing rain and snow arrive Saturday, and more much-needed rain and snow arrives this weekend. The next storm is approaching the West Coast at this time, and we can expect increasing clouds overnight and Saturday morning. Lows tonight will range from the 10s in the mountains to the 20s and 30s in the valley and foothills. Saturday the next round of rain and mountain snow will begin, but initially more of it will fall east of I-5 than west. Everyone will have chances for rain and snow through Saturday night. Highs tomorrow will range from the 30s in the mountains and foothills to the 40s in the valley.
