Man Injured, Charged, In Frewsburg Crash

FREWSBURG — An Allegany town resident was injured and later charged following a vehicle crash Monday night. According to the Carroll Police Department, around 6 p.m. Nicholas R. Scolton, 25, was traveling northeast on Wheeler Hill Road at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle while rounding a sharp curve. Scolton’s vehicle crossed into the opposite lane of travel, left the roadway and struck a group of trees. He was pinned in the vehicle and needed to be extricated. Because of the extensive vehicle damage, it took about 40 minutes to extricate him.

Protestors, Supporters of Principal Clash at Olean School Board Meeting

A raucous school board meeting took place in Olean last night as over 100 people gathered to protest and support remarks made by a school principal. Olean Intermediate School Principal Joel Witcher, who is also a pastor at a dominionist church in Allegany, posted a series of videos to Facebook in which he made anti-LGBT and anti-Muslim remarks, and said that students with mental illnesses and diabetes were “possessed by demons,” and saying that his church had “infiltrated” the school system.

Upgrades underway at St. James: Hospital starts construction of enclosed walkway, patio

HORNELL — St. James Hospital has begun construction on two ancillary projects made possible by completion of a capital campaign launched in 2019. The projects include an enclosed walkway that connects the new hospital with the Medical Office Building and an outdoor patio courtyard for patients and visitors. These projects were funded through a $1.5 million capital campaign, separate from the $55 million in New York state funding to build the new hospital.
