Fremont County Search and Rescue volunteer dies after 35 years of service

FREMONT COUNTY — A beloved member of the Fremont County community passed away Thursday after a long battle with health-related issues. A memorial procession and final drive will take place in St. Anthony on Tuesday in remembrance of 53-year-old Eric Thomas. The event will be organized by the Fremont County Search and Rescue, Fremont County Sheriff’s office, Fremont County EMS, and the North Fremont Fire Department.

Fremont County voters to decide on district split study

Voters in Fremont County will be faced with a different question on their ballot as they enter the polls Tuesday May 16. That question is regarding whether or not the Fremont Joint School District should consider conducting a study as to whether or not they should split the district between the north and the south. David Marotz the Co-Interim superintendent for the school district says this vote won't bring any immediate change. South Fremont science teacher to attend NASA Science Experience

A South Fremont Jr. High School first year science teacher recently received an Idaho Space Grant to attend the annual NASA Science Experience in June. Yes, Idaho — just like the other 49 states — has a space grant program, said Rebecca Porter who will be one of 65 teachers nationwide to attend the science experience.

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: South Fremont holds off Sugar-Salem to secure district title

South Fremont’s softball team bounced back from its first district tournament loss to beat Sugar-Salem 14-9 and secure its fourth 3A District 6 title in a row. Sugar-Salem built a 5-1 lead before the Cougars released a hitting explosion in the third inning. Kallie Johnson started the scoring off with a solo home run in and Ashley Rydalch ended the run with a three-run home run.

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Sugar-Salem shuts out South Fremont to force district tiebreaker

Sugar-Salem’s softball team topped South Fremont 10-0 Wednesday in five innings in the second game of their best-of-three series for the 3A District 6 title. The Diggers had lost all three of their games to South Fremont this season falling 25-10 and 8-5 in the regular season. They then fell 8-7 Tuesday in the first game of the district championship best-of-3 series.

GreenTimber Historical Society sets up GoFundMe for school's foundation

The Green Timber Historical Society hopes to raise badly needed funds to restore the foundation of the old Green Timber School. “We’d like to raise $25,000. That’s our goal,” said the society’s secretary, Emma Atchley. “We need that amount in order to start and complete replacement of the now crumbling rock and mortar foundation under the building. We need to lift the building up and put a good foundation under it to continue to restore it.”
