UPDATED: Man killed by police in rural Virginia after pointing gun at officers

A man is dead after a hostage situation in Luray, Virginia Tuesday afternoon. According to police, the man exited a convenience store and pointed a gun at officers who fired. Police say the incident unfolded just after noon at the Page Convenience Store on West Main Street in the Town of Luray. According to police, they were dispatched to the reports of a male suspect with a gun and two bystanders were inside with the suspect.

Trucker caught with more than $850k worth of pot during weight station inspection

A trucker from California is in jail after New Jersey State Troopers discovered 121 pounds of marijuana and other THC products during a routine truck inspection. According to a press release, Troopers assigned with the Mobile Safe Freight Training Unit selected a truck for a safety inspection at the Interstate 78 weight station in Greenwich Township. During the investigation, Trooper Joseph Seidler detected evidence of criminal activity and located several boxes spread throughout the load that was not consistent with the legitimate cargo in the trailer. When Trooper Seidler searched the boxes, he discovered 121 pounds of marijuana and other THC products.

Trucker caught with stolen truckload, and this story is NUTS

A trucker is in jail after authorities say he was caught red-handed with a load of stolen Pistachios. Literally, in the middle of unloading and repacking the stolen nuts. 34-year-old Alberto Montemayor, owner of Montemayor Trucking was arrested Saturday in Delano, CA. in the process of offloading the stolen goods. Authorities learned of the missing nuts after their owner, Touchstone Pistachio Company performed a routine audit earlier this month and noticed they were short roughly 42,000 lbs. of the nuts.

Tornado rips through Chicago suburb: 5 injured, one critical

Five people were injured, one critically when an estimated EF-2 tornado ripped through the Cities of Naperville, Woodridge, and Darien in Illinois late Sunday night. At least 16 homes were destroyed and more than 125 damage reports have been filed with officials in Naperville, IL. which felt the most devastating impacts from the tornado. According to a press release from city officials the Naperville area sustained damage to homes and downed trees and powerlines. Tornado sirens were activated at 11:07 p.m, according to the release.

Lobster diver swallowed up by whale escapes with minor injuries

In a story reminiscent of Jonah and the Whale, Michael Packard, a 56-year-old lobster diver from Massachusetts was swallowed up by a humpback whale and lived to tell the tale. According to the Cape Cod Times, just before 8 a.m. on June 11, the veteran lobster diver entered the water for his third dive of the day. His vessel, the “Ja’n J,” was surrounded by a fleet of boats catching striped bass off the coast of Provincetown. The water temperature was 60 degrees and the visibility was about 20 feet.
