PORTLAND, Maine — Monday's storm dumped several inches of heavy, wet snow across parts of Maine. Where you lived made a huge difference in how much snow fell. Gun Used by Boston Marathon Bomber Reportedly Tied to Man Killed in Providence Over Weekend

The man shot and killed in Providence over the weekend — Biniam Tsegai, age 35, of Portland, Maine — had reported ties to the Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev. In 2014, the Bangor Daily News reported that Biniam “Icy” Tsegai, 28, had been sentenced to eight years in prison for his role in a crack cocaine trafficking conspiracy in Maine’s largest city between November 2010 and February 2012, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.

Providence police identify Maine man as first homicide victim of 2022

Providence police on Tuesday identified the city's first homicide victim of 2022 as 35-year-old Biniam Tsegai of Portland, Maine. Around 3 a.m. on Sunday, Tsegai and 20-year-old Merhawi Berhe of Cambridge, Massachusetts, were walking in a group on Elmwood Avenue when they were approached by four men, Maj. David Lapatin, who commands the department's investigative division, told reporters.

Market 27 plans gas pumps, bigger building

About half a year since opening Market 27 at 475 Gardiner Road, Wiscasset, the owners said they continue to go with what their customers want and the business is doing excellent. They announced Tuesday morning, by the end of this year, they plan to replace the 5,200-square-foot building with an 8,000-square foot one further back on the lot, and have eight gas pumps and two diesel pumps.

COVID-19 hospitalizations dip in Maine

The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Maine has dipped to 400. That number has been declining since hitting a record high of 436 last Thursday. The number of people in critical care has also taken a slight dip to 105, as has the number of people on ventilators, which currently stands at 50.
