Suspect in Freeport robberies is Mississippi man

FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) - A man suspected in two Freeport robberies was taken into custody on charges of aggravated armed robbery. On Monday, Aug. 2, The Freeport Police Department announced they will serve 19-year-old Joseph S. Williams Jr. of Biloxi, Mississippi the arrest warrants after arrangements are made to transport him to the Stephenson County Courthouse from the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, where he has been in their custody since July 29, on a charge of armed robbery.

Motorcyclist hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after Rockford crash Sunday

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - A 29-year-old man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a motorcycle crash in Rockford on Sunday morning. On Sunday, Aug. 1, at approximately 2:50 a.m., Rockford police officers were sent to the intersection of Kishwaukee Street and Brooke Road for a report of a vehicle and motorcycle crash. The motorcyclist, a 29-year-old man, was taken to a local hospital for life-threatening injuries.

Shooting, shots fired reported in Rockford over weekend

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - The Rockford Police Department reported shots fired and a shooting over the weekend. On Thursday, July 29, at around 6:25 p.m., officers were sent to the 1000 block of E. State Street for reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers learned that multiple buildings in the area were struck as two cars exchanged gunfire while driving east on State Street. A short time later, officers located one of the cars, abandoned, near 17th Street and 19th Avenue. The car was reported stolen out of Iowa, according to the Rockford Police Department.

Man murdered, woman hurt in Sunday morning shooting in Rockford

UPDATE – Rockford Police now calling a shooting early Sunday morning, a murder. Officers responded to a parking deck at 315 West State Street for reports of shots fired. They found a 23-year-old man and 25-year-old woman on the sidewalk, near the alley, with several gunshot wounds. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - One man is dead and one woman is in life-threatening condition after a shooting early Sunday morning in downtown Rockford. Just after 2:30 a.m. Sunday, multiple witnesses near the scene say they heard several gunshots fired near the Talcott Building in downtown Rockford and say there is one gunshot victim. A short time later, multiple police officers and paramedics responded to the scene.

House fire early Monday morning displaces Rockford family

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - A house fire in Rockford early Monday morning is leaving one family without a home. Just after 12:30 Monday morning, Rockford Fire responded to 117 Willard Ave., and upon arrival saw heavy smoke billowing from the home. The family had already exited the house at that time. The fire was located in the basement area, and controlled in under 20 min. The basement received heavy fire damage, and the main living quarters suffered heavy smoke damage. No residents or firefighters were injured in the fire.
