Members of the Aberdeen School Board learned a little about what's been happening at the New Beginnings Center during this week's meeting. Courtney Dosch, director of the center, was at the Monday meeting to give an update. The facility helps kids ages 10 to 17, said Dosch, although a majority of the students are 13 or older.

A former banker has been sentenced to 21 months in federal prison after he authorized loans in the name of a customer, but used the money himself. Gabe Outtrim, 42, of Glenham pleaded guilty to a count of fraud Dec. 7 at the federal courthouse in Aberdeen. On Monday afternoon, Federal Judge Charles B. Kornmann sentenced Outtrim to 21 months in prison in addition to five years of supervised release. He must also pay $144,000 in restitution.

OAKES, N.D. (Oakes Public School) – Oakes Public School announced that they have hired Jeremy Skoglund as their new varsity boys basketball coach. Coach Skoglund has two children, a daughter, Brooke, who is 23, and son, Trey, who is now a Junior at Oakes High School. Jeremy grew up in Hecla, SD, where he participated in basketball, football, and track. While in high school, he and his teammates appeared in 2 State Basketball Tournaments and 3 State Track Meets. After high school, Jeremy continued pursuing his passion for athletics by running hurdles at SDSU for a year.
