FEMA Assesses Damage From Gaylord Tornado

(CNN) – The Federal Emergency Management Agency assessed damage in Gaylord, Michigan on Wednesday. The city was hit by an EF3 tornado last week leaving two people were killed, 44 others were injured. FEMA spokesperson Mark Peterson says it doesn’t determine whether or not the area should received federal aid that’s up to the state to apply for it. “There’s no specific criteria that relates to individual assistance, our program that we’re looking at here,” said Peterson. “What we are looking at is, is the overall impact of such a severity that the community and the state cannot recover without federal assistance.” Peterson tells...

Michigan man, 23, accused of sexually assaulting child for 4 years

KALKASKA COUNTY, MI – A Michigan man is facing felony charges after allegedly sexually abusing a child over the course of four years, police said. During October 2021, troopers from the Michigan State Police Houghton Lake Post were alerted by Child Protective Services to an alleged sexual assault, according to a news release. The victim had told a parent that she was sexually abused from 2014 to 2018. The suspect had resided in the same household as the victim for part of that time.

Gaylord Celebrates 100th Anniversary With Events Throughout the Summer

This year marks 100 years as a city for Gaylord, and despite hard times with the tornado May 20, they’re still looking to celebrate. In March of 1922, Gaylord went from being a small village to a city when the citizens voted for Gaylord’s incorporation, changing it’s governmental structure. To commemorate the event, the city has planned a number of events this summer, including a parade, an open house at City Hall and creating a time capsule, which people can submit items for during the events.

Michigan Works! Will Host Tornado Recovery and Assistance Event Friday in Gaylord

Michigan Works! says three dozen businesses in Gaylord have been impacted by last week’s tornado – and it could be weeks or months before they reopen. The agency is hosting a number of tornado recovery and assistance events for both employers and employees. The free sessions include help for business owners who may be completely closed due to the storm, either for short-term repairs or closed indefinitely. There is also help for workers – with building resumes and other resources for job seekers.

Gaylord Man Charged With Criminal Sexual Conduct With a Victim Under 13

A Gaylord man was charged for sexually assaulting a victim under the age of 13, according to Michigan State Police.
