Helen Cass passed away on Sunday, June 12 at Longs Peak UCHealth hospital in Longmont, Colorado. Burial of cremains will be at a later date at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery. Helen was born to Harold and Grace (Baldwin) Pedley in Minden NE on Sept. 16, 1937. She grew up in Minden, often working as a soda jerk at the family business, Pedley Drug. She graduated from Minden High School in 1955. She attended the University of Nebraska where she was a member of Alpha Phi sorority and earned a degree in journalism in 1959. While at the University, she met her future husband, Lyman J. Cass, and they married in 1960. They lived in Germany for five years while Lyman served in the Army. They returned to Nebraska and lived in Ravenna and then moved to Grand Island, where they raised their family. Helen was an avid quilter and co-founded and operated a quilt store called The Patchworks in downtown Grand Island. She was a proud supporter of University of Nebraska athletics and frequently attended baseball, basketball and football games. One of her favorite places on earth was Memorial Stadium on game day. Helen and Lyman moved to Estes Park, Colorado in 2015.
