Helen Cass

Helen Cass passed away on Sunday, June 12 at Longs Peak UCHealth hospital in Longmont, Colorado. Burial of cremains will be at a later date at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery. Helen was born to Harold and Grace (Baldwin) Pedley in Minden NE on Sept. 16, 1937. She grew up in Minden, often working as a soda jerk at the family business, Pedley Drug. She graduated from Minden High School in 1955. She attended the University of Nebraska where she was a member of Alpha Phi sorority and earned a degree in journalism in 1959. While at the University, she met her future husband, Lyman J. Cass, and they married in 1960. They lived in Germany for five years while Lyman served in the Army. They returned to Nebraska and lived in Ravenna and then moved to Grand Island, where they raised their family. Helen was an avid quilter and co-founded and operated a quilt store called The Patchworks in downtown Grand Island. She was a proud supporter of University of Nebraska athletics and frequently attended baseball, basketball and football games. One of her favorite places on earth was Memorial Stadium on game day. Helen and Lyman moved to Estes Park, Colorado in 2015.

Neoma Elnora Younkin, 94, of Minden, passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Bethany Home in Minden. Private family inurnment will be held at Minden Cemetery with the Rev. Peter Choi officiating. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorials in Neoma’s honor are kindly suggested to the Minden United Methodist Church. Craig Funeral Home in Minden is assisting the family.

Harold Cayouette

Harold Allen Cayouette, 73, of rural Minden, passed away on Friday, June 10, 2022 at his home. Private family scattering of his ashes will be held over the waters of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Military honors will be presented at the North Harwich Cemetery in Harwich, Massachusetts at a later date. Memorials in Harold’s honor are kindly suggested to the family for later designation. Craig Funeral Home in Minden is assisting the family.

Shirley Faye Wolzen, 87, of Grand Island passed away on Monday, June 13, 2022. Services will be held at 11 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in the Sanctuary on Friday, June 17, 2022. Pastor Carl Eliason will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Minden Cemetery in Minden, NE.

Funk Festival of Cupcakes looking for bakers of all kinds for annual competition

FUNK — Funk School Community Center is calling for professionals, amateurs and talented kid cupcake bakers to once again make its Festival of Cupcakes a sweet success. Registration is open now through July 6 for the event, which will be held 2-4 p.m. July 17 at the Funk School Community Center. Bakers will compete in three levels — professional, amateur and talented kids-16 and under.

The girls and boys all star basketball games of the New West All Star Classic in Minden were played on Thursday night. In the girls games, the Lou Platte Conference defeated the Southwest Conference all stars 51-35 and the Fort Kearny Conference defeated the Repbublican Plains Activity Conference 48-39. Campbell man indicted on federal drug charges

OMAHA, Neb. (KSNB) - A federal grand jury has indicted a Campbell man on drug and weapons charges. The U.S. Attorney’s office said Jeremy A. Kinney, 48, is charged in a three-count Indictment. Count I charges Kinney with possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine (mixture) on or about May 26. The penalty if convicted is not less than 10 years’ and up to a life imprisonment, a $10,000,000 fine, not less than five years and up to a life term of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment.

FUNAS COUNTY, Neb. — A Campbell man who authorities say had drugs and a loaded gun after a pursuit is now facing charges in federal court.
