Security guard helps 2-year-old boy found walking alone in South Austin

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 2-year-old boy was found wandering alone in the South Austin neighborhood.Police said the boy, only wearing a diaper, was found walking in the 300 block of South Cicero Avenue around 4:15 a.m.A security guard at a nearby gas station spotted the boy, looked for his parents and called police. "He was just fine when he got to me," Gerald Foster said. "We came in, I got him a shirt, got him a juice and a bag of chips and just took care of him like he was mine." Police confirmed the child's parents were located. Police said the child does not appear to have any injuries.

Tuesday’s game between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Chicago White Sox was a back-and-forth affair that saw the White Sox pull out the victory in the bottom of the 12th inning. The game featured some questionable calls, to say the least, from home plate umpire Doug Eddings. Eddings missed a season-high 29 ball-strike calls behind the plate on Tuesday night, with an overall correct call rate of 86.2 percent.

Police investigating after woman shot, killed in Oak Park parking lot

OAK PARK, Ill. (CBS) – A woman is shot and killed in Oak Park early Wednesday morning.  Police said officers responded to a call of shots fired and found a woman with a gunshot wound to the head area in a parking lot, at 100 Chicago Ave, around 1:52 a.m. A witness say two male offenders approached the victim from behind, fired a shot, and took their belongings. They were also seen fleeing the scene in the woman's dark Chrysler vehicle, police said. The victim was taken to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead. Driver killed in rollover crash on Stevenson Expressway

CHICAGO (CBS) – A man is killed in a rollover crash on the Stevenson Expressway early Wednesday morning. Illinois State Police said around 2:30 a.m., the driver of a blue Chrysler 300c was driving southbound on I-55 when it struck the rear of a white Volvo truck tractor. Initial reports say the Chrysler went off the roadway to the left and overturned. The driver of the Chrysler, a 48-year-old man of Joliet, was transported to an area hospital and pronounced dead. The driver of the Volvo, a 48-year-old man of Lemont, was not injured.No further information was immediately available. 

Woman, 22, fatally shot during argument in Englewood

CHICAGO - A woman was shot and killed during an argument with a man Tuesday night in the Englewood neighborhood. The 22-year-old was arguing with a man around 11:10 p.m. when he pulled out a gun and shot her in the head in the 5900 block of South Bishop Street, police said.

Shots fired on outbound Dan Ryan near Chicago Skyway; lanes shut down

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Shots were fired on the Dan Ryan Expressway near the Chicago Skyway interchange late Wednesday. The gunfire happened around 5 p.m. – the height of the afternoon rush – on the outbound Ryan. After the shots were fired, two men were seen running from the scene. A weapon might have been thrown away. Two left lanes were blocked in then express lanes as of 6 p.m. An ambulance also came and went from the scene. The motive for the shooting – whether road rage, a targeted event, an accident, or something else – remained unknown late Wednesday.

Armed robbers target at least 12 people in overnight crime spree

Another wave of armed robberies rolled across the city overnight, leaving at least 11 victims in its wake. Among the victims are a tourist visiting the Mag Mile, two people riding in a pedicab on Wacker Drive in the Loop, a man walking in Boystown, and an employee leaving work at a popular West Town bar.

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police on Wednesday issued an alert about a string of armed robberies that stretched from Chinatown to Fulton Market to the Loop and Streeterville, and north all the way to East Lakeview.
