On Saturday, May 7 the Searcy County Senior Center held their second annual Historic Strawberry Festival at the Strawberry Shed located in Marshall. There were vendors, concessions, a dunking booth, water balloon toss, pie eating contest, turtle races, and of course strawberries. Jeannie Horton won the strawberry jam contest. Michael Gray and Andy W. Griffith were the winners of the cornhole doubles competition. Teen Miss Strawberry Festival Kelsey Wallis visited with politicians, vendors as well as other guests in attendance. On Saturday, April 28 the Searcy County Quilt Guild held their annual quilt show located in the Dr. Charles Daniel Civic Center located in Marshall. This year’s theme was “Log Cabins.” 129 quilts were entered this year. This year’s winner was the Viewer’s Choice was won by Terry Miller of Protium, Missouri. Denny Gene Battershell, age 64 of Marshall, Arkansas died on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at Highland Court in Marshall, Arkansas. He was born in Marshall, Arkansas on December 27, 1957 to Nathan Freeman “N.F.” Battershell and Glenda Mae Thompson Battershell. He worked at Ferguson’s for many years as a furniture maker. He enjoyed woodworking and was excellent at his trade. He was an avid gardener with an amazing green thumb and could make anything grow.

Earmie Allender Cornett, 90, of Drasco, passed away Friday, May 13, 2022. She was born January 5, 1932, in Concord, Arkansas to Theodore Allender and Panzie Eddings Allender. Earmie was a member of Ben Church of Christ. She was a homemaker, gardener, and farmer and was very proud of her family. Her home was filled from wall to wall with family photos. Earmie was an avid hunter and loved the outdoors; her turkey and deer mounts were envied by everyone who entered her home. She also loved to watch the birds, deer, coons, rabbits, and squirrels while they enjoyed the feed she always had out for them. May 13th is a significant date for Mrs. Earmie as it was her wedding anniversary, one of her son’s birthdays, as well as her death date where she was reunited with her husband, Earl, on their 72nd wedding anniversary and their son, Rickey.
