MANTI—The Sanpete County Cattlemen’s Association has named Brad Bown of Manti as the 2002 latest King Cowboy. Russell Faatz, association president, presented the award at the organization’s annual dinner Thursday, June 23 at the Fairgrounds pavilion. Bown will represent the association in the annual Sanpete County Fair parade later this summer.

MT. PLEASANT—Sandra Bigler, the grand marshal of Hub City Days, has served Mt. Pleasant and its residents throughout her adult life. She is a descendant of Seely pioneers, who were among the first Mt. Pleasant settlers in 1859. She was born in the Madsen Hospital on Main Street on March 22, 1945 to Hyrum Carlton Seeley and Elverda Elizabeth Smith. She has lived in Mt. Pleasant her entire life except for a year and a half in Salt Lake City.

MORONI—Leonard Blackham, former state senator and Utah Commissioner of Agriculture, and his wife, Laura, will be the grand marshals of the Moroni July Fourth celebration. Leonard has lived his whole life in Moroni, and Laura came to Moroni at age 14. Both say they grew up in wonderful families and still enjoy their association with their brothers and sisters that are still living.

MANTI—California native Judy Chantry continues to bring smiles and kindness to Manti, providing services and to all types of residents. Although she is not a Manti native, she has been serving the community for more than 20 years through her former business, Kopy Katz, and volunteering at the elementary school.

FOUNTAIN GREEN—At the city council meeting on Tuesday, May 17, Mayor Mark Coombs and Fountain Green City Council members said they were pleased with the coverage they have been receiving since they made the decision in March to contract with the Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office for police services.

Sanpete Valley Hospital administrator Aaron Wood has confirmed that Intermountain Healthcare plans to purchase land in Ephraim later this year. A hospital with as many as 125 beds has been rumored, but it will be determined at a later date what the land will be used for.

FAIRVIEW — Neighbors in north Sanpete communities and representative fire and EMT trucks from several Sanpete County Departments gathered at dusk on June 15 at dusk at the Indianola Valley Fire Station to honor the memory of one of its newest members, Kari Foster, who passed away unexpectedly at her home in Fairview Ranchos on June 11.

MANTI—Jasmin Rangel Murillo, a senior at Manti High School, is the recipient of a scholarship from the Utah Jazz. For the second season in a row, the Utah Jazz has awarded a full-ride, four-year scholarship to a Manti High School student. The Utah Jazz team has committed to award a full-ride scholarship to a Utah high school student from an underrepresented group with each one of their pre-season and regular season wins. Fifty-five total scholarships were given out to Utah students this year.
