Council calls for special election

The Aledo City Council voted unanimously to call for a special election and place a home rule charter proposition on the Nov. 2 ballot at its regular meeting on July 22. Under Home Rule, the city would have more flexibility to adopt its own rules in addition to state legislation, allowing citizens more control over local government.

Ted Cruz and other Texas Republicans, you sure give us a head-scratcher on the election

Republicans have again shown us who they are. They filibustered a Jan. 6 investigation by a committee evenly divided between Republicans and Democrats (which would have included their ability to veto any subpoenas). Now, after cynically appointing likely material witnesses to the select committee (whom they knew would be rejected), they have decided to simply abandon it.

Sixteen-year-olds should be allowed to influence our nation’s issues through voting. Like 18-year-olds, 16-year-olds can get a driver’s license, and they can get employed; therefore, they...

DALLAS — The nation’s eyes will be on the Lone Star State Tuesday, where a runoff election for a North Texas congressional seat has turned into a testing ground for how much political power an endorsement from former President Donald Trump can still bring ahead of the 2022 midterm elections.
