B&B Bicycles Named 2021 Readers Choice Awards Winner

B&B Bicycles was once again named Best Bicycle Shop in our 2021 Readers Choice Awards. A repeat award winner, B&B Bicycles is owned by Beth Farrell. She started the business with her three sons in Oak Cliff in 1994. The store’s title, B&B Bicycles, stands for Beth and Boys. They opened the Cedar Hill location in 2002, and the company celebrated their 27th anniversary this year.

Buxton Marine plans to build new retail boat sales and service facility in Lewisville

Buxton Marine is proposing to construct a new retail boat sales and service facility with outdoor display and storage at 125 Valley Ridge Blvd. in Lewisville. The shop is currently located at 1566 N. Stemmons Freeway in Lewisville. The relocation on 6.256 acres will allow the owners to “better accommodate their growing business,” according to a city staff memo. The Lewisville City Council voted 5-0 on Sept. 20 to approve a special use permit for the facility as well as a variance for parking.

Sept. 9-Nov. 12: Register team now for Tri-Town Amazing Race. Registration is being accepted through Nov. 12 for teams participating in the Tri-Town Amazing Race. The event includes 10 challenges (both mental and physical) in Lewisville, Flower Mound and Highland Village to encourage team bonding. The event is open to ages 8 and up. Teams of 2-6 people will be eligible. Check-in is at 8 a.m. Nov. 20. Race begins at 9 a.m. $40 per team of two with $5 for each additional person. Nostalgic 'Big Boy' Steam Engine Draws Thousands to Ft. Worth

'Big Boy' 4014 visited Ft. Worth on August 16Union Pacific. Union Pacific finished restoring the last working "Big Boy" locomotive number 4014 in 2019 and brought him to Ft. Worth during his U.S. tour on August 14th. Out of the 25 Big Boys that were built, only 8 survived, 7 of which are in now museums and on other static displays around the country. The Big Boys' original purpose was to carry supplies over mountains and other tough terrains during WWII.

Electric vehicle charging company chooses Arlington for its first U.S. factory

An electric vehicle charging station manufacturer has chosen Arlington as the site of its first manufacturing plant in the United States. Wallbox, a global company headquartered in Barcelona, announced Wednesday plans to open a 130,000 square-foot factory and begin production as soon as June 2022, according to a company press release. The plant could create around 250 jobs by 2030. Wallbox plans to begin hiring for the plant immediately.

Covering an expanse of North Texas prairie with another sprawling manufacturing facility may not be everyone’s idea of a green enterprise. Such an operation is under consideration for Fort Worth’s west side. But what distinguishes it are its products — zero-emissions vehicles — along with the company’s stated goal of net-zero carbon output and preserving a sizeable swath of the property — the former Walsh ranch — in its natural state.
