Cathy Clawson had a simple message for the man who pleaded guilty Friday to causing her daughter’s death in 2020. “Just come out a better man. No more drugs,” Clawson told Robert Seth Barnhart after he was sentenced to serve 3-6 years in prison for his role in the crash that killed his longtime girlfriend, 44-year-old Susan Clawson of Uniontown.

Uniontown state Rep. Matt Dowling charged with DUI

UNIONTOWN, Pa. (KDKA) - State Rep. Matt Dowling of Uniontown is facing DUI charges after a crash earlier this month.Dowling said he was involved in a head-on crash on June 4. According to court paperwork filed Thursday, he's been charged with DUI, careless driving, driving an unregistered vehicle and following too closely. In a statement after the crash, Dowling said he's been dealing with physical and mental trauma since a medical issue caused a serious crash last fall, leading to "life changing" injuries. He said he entered treatment to "address any possible alcohol issues" and no one else was injured in the crash this month. Dowling represents the 51st Legislative District, which covers parts of Fayette and Somerset counties. 

UPMC to close Somerset hospice facility; care shifting to homes, hospital

SOMERSET — Hospice care inside Somerset’s In Touch Hospice House will end this summer, driven by changing industry trends, UPMC officials said. With more patients able to receive end-of-life care at home, demand for the North Center Avenue location’s 10-bed unit has decreased in recent years, a UPMC spokesperson said in a statement Friday.

The Story Never Ends: Kim Clapper, a testament to community service

Meyersdale has lost one of its kindest souls. And, while Kim Clapper, who died June 22 at her home in Arizona, hasn't been back to her hometown of Meyersdale for awhile, she stayed connected to family and friends and her beloved service organizations here. She and her husband, Woody Miller, moved to Meyersdale in 2008 from Colorado into a historic home once owned by her grandfather, Carl Clapper, along 11th Avenue and she soon became known for her community service and gracious smile.

Live Music Downtown Enhances Allegany Reunion Weekend

Cumberland Police Investigate Two Incidents

On July 1, 2022 an Officer of the Cumberland Police Department observed a drug transaction between a male and female subject. The Officer witnessed a transaction of currency in exchange for a small plastic bag of suspected CDS. The female was contacted and was identified as Brittany Nicole Miller. Miller advised the Officers that she had marijuana and prescription medication in her possession. Miller was holding the currency in her hand when she was contacted. During the investigation it was determined that Miller sold prescription medication to the male subject for $100.00. Miller was placed under arrest and transported to Police headquarters for processing. Miller was subsequently remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center Held on $5000.00.
