2 North Iowans killed in separate Wyoming motorcycle crashes

LUSK, Wyoming - A north Iowa man is dead following a motorcycle crash in Wyoming. According to the Wyoming DOT, Thomas Brown, 59, of Mason City, died in a crash Friday. Authorities said he was driving a Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound on US Highway 85 when it exited the roadway and crashed into a barb-wire fence.

CLIVE, Iowa – A winning scratch game ticket means $10,000 for a Mason City man. Miguel Ramirez won the 13th price of $10,000 offered in the Iowa Lottery’s “Super 20s” scratch game. The winning ticket was bought at Midtown Liquor & Vape in Mason City. Ramirez claimed his prize Wednesday at the regional lottery office in Mason City.

Suspended sentences, probation for Mason City man accused of shooting at a vehicle, burglaries

MASON CITY — A Mason City man charged with shooting at another vehicle and attacking someone in an apartment last fall has been given a suspended prison sentence. 21-year-old Javail McKnight was accused of firing three bullets into the driver’s side door of another vehicle near the intersection of 9th and South Virginia on November 21st, and then later that day entering an apartment in the 1000 block of South Illinois where he allegedly assaulted a person and caused extensive damage to a television and a cell phone.

Authorities ID person who died in Albert Lea house fire

ALBERT LEA, Minn. - Authorities on Tuesday identified the person killed in a weekend house fire. "Albert Lea Fire Rescue has identified the victim of an Aug. 13 house fire as Garth D. Conklyn. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office has determined that his death was accidental, caused by soot and smoke inhalation," officials said.

Mason City woman arrested for burglarizing comic book store

Jessica Elbert, 35, is being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail after authorities said she entered Now and Then Comics after business hours on May 30 carrying a duffle bag and wearing gloves and a face covering.

Minor changes recommended for local intersection

A Clear Lake intersection that has been the site of four crashes, including a fatality, will receive some modifications in the wake of a traffic study. City Council members approved an application Monday to the Iowa Department of Transportation for funding to support recommendations for improvements to the South 8th Street and 27th Avenue South intersection.

Sentencing set for Mason City man who pleads guilty to serious injury by motor vehicle while intoxicated

MASON CITY — The sentencing date has been set for a Mason City man accused of vehicular homicide after the death of a bicyclist last year. The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department says the accident happened at 22375 Thrush Avenue near Plymouth shortly after 11:35 on the night of June 5th last year. James Powell was traveling southbound on his bike when he was hit by a vehicle driven by 28-year-old Cody Skiye. Powell died from his injuries six days later.

Inflation not the only reason for the high bids rejected by the Mason City City Council for bridge maintenance program

MASON CITY — The City Council in Mason City last night rejected bids for a bridge repair and maintenance program after all were over twice the estimated cost. The city opened three bids submitted for the project last Tuesday, which would have: replaced handrails on the bridge on North Pierce Avenue over Willow Creek; replaced expansion joint material and reset abutment bearings on the 19th Southwest overpass over the Union Pacific Railroad; approach repair and joint material replacement on the 12th Northwest overpass over the UP; as well as other miscellaneous repairs.
