Three law enforcement officers were killed and three other officers were shot Thursday night after a man barricaded in his home opened fire with a rifle in Allen, Kentucky, a rural town so small that it lacks its own police force, authorities said.

A third police officer has died after the shooting in Floyd County that took place Thursday evening. This brings the death toll to three officers and a K-9 unit. Floyd County officials say Sheriff’s Deputy William Petry and Prestonsburg City Police Capt. Ralph Frasure were killed on Thursday, as was a K-9 police dog named Drago. The Prestonsburg Police Department has confirmed, in a Facebook post, a third officer, canine handler Jacob Chaffins has also died from his injuries.
