Boy who drowned in Lake Elsinore on Sunday identified

The nine-year-old-boy who drowned at Launch Pointe Beach in Lake Elsinore on Sunday has been identified. Dante Clark, a Palmdale resident, lost his life on Sunday after drowning, the Riverside County Coroner's office announced on MondayClark was swimming with another juvenile when both began struggling to stay afloat. A bystander pulled one of the kids out but unfortunately Clark did not make it. A Riverside County Sheriffs Department dive team found Clark after a four-hour search in which the lake was closed off to the public.

Ontario police: Suspect in Little Caesars Pizza robbery armed with AR-15-style rifle

An Ontario man faces robbery and firearm charges Monday after authorities say he tried to steal food from a Little Caesars in Ontario with an AR-15-style rifle.Pablito Lucero, 20, was arrested Sunday at the Little Caesars Pizza, 602-B W Holt Blvd. officers were called to the restaurant on the report of a man in possession of a firearm. As officers arrived, they saw a man leaving the restaurant with stolen food items and a large rifle in his shirt, according to Ontario police.The gunman was ordered to put his hands in the air, but when he didn't comply, officers used a stun gun on him, police said. He was taken into custody without any injury to officers or customers."The officers who responded to the call demonstrated exemplary composure while dealing with a high stress situation involving a dangerous suspect in possession of multiple firearms," Ontario police said in a statement.Lucero was found to be in possession of an AR-15-style assault rifle and 9mm polymer handgun, police said. He was being held on $100,000 on suspicion of robbery and multiple firearm charges, and is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.

Caltrans delays 5-day closure on 210 Freeway in Irwindale

The five-day closure of the westbound 210 Freeway in Irwindale scheduled for mid-July has been pushed back a week, Caltrans announced Monday.The freeway closure was originally scheduled to begin at 11 p.m. on July 13 and continue through 4 a.m. on July 19. According to Caltrans, the closure will now begin at 10 p.m. July 20 and continue through 4 a.m. July 26.During the construction, traffic on the westbound freeway between Irwindale Avenue to the 605 Freeway will be re-routed onto the eastbound side of the road.Ramps from the westbound 210 to Irwindale Avenue and to the southbound 605 Freeway will also be closed along with ramps from the 605 Freeway to the eastbound 210 Freeway.Crews will use the time to make upgrades on the San Gabriel River Bridge.Caltrans said drivers should expect delays and consider alternate routes.A second five-day closure on the eastbound side of the freeway is being planned for August.

Cal State University accused of underpaying women, men of color

A proposed class-action lawsuit is accusing the California State University system of racial and gender discrimination when it comes to pay.The law firm of McCune Wright Arevalo announced Monday it would file a lawsuit against a number of CSU campuses, including Cal State San Bernardino, on behalf of women and people of color, alleging they are underpaid compared to their male or white counterparts.The lawsuit claims a recent study by the California State University Employees Union revealed that men of color are paid 3% less than white men. The same study found an even bigger discrepancy for women's pay — white women are paid 5% less, while women of color make 7% less.In a statement, CSU officials say they have not yet received information about the lawsuit."The California State University deeply values its employees and is committed to ensuring competitive wages, benefits and rewarding careers that fulfill CSU's mission of providing students access to a high-quality, affordable education," the statement said.

Azusa neighborhood evacuated after authorities find large cache of illegal fireworks

Los Angeles County investigators have closed an entire neighborhood after they discovered a large cache of illegal fireworks inside of an Azusa home. According to the Azusa Police Department, officers evacuated the 900 block of West Hollyvale Street after investigators with the L.A.
