More Information on Storm Lake Animal Neglect Case ; Multiple Individuals Charged

Three people have been charged after an animal cruelty complaint led to the removal of several cats and dogs from a Storm Lake residence. According to the Storm Lake Police Department, a search warrant was executed at 1014 North Michigan Street at approximately 10am last Friday. Multiple animals were located in the home, and many of them appeared to be in poor condition. Officers captured and removed 50 cats and two dogs from the home. The animals were transported to Lake Animal Hospital for evaluation and treatment. Some of them had to be euthanized due to illness.

Woman Charged With Assaulting Estranged Boyfriend in Storm Lake

A young woman was arrested this (Tues) morning in Storm Lake for allegedly assaulting her estranged boyfriend. This past Sunday around 4:50pm, 20-year-old Luz Elena Barron is accused of committing the assault outside of her estranged boyfriend's residence at 700 Hudson Street. Barron reportedly entered the victim's residence as he retreated. Barron continued to attempt to assault the 21-year-old victim until family members intervened. Barron fled the scene prior to the arrival of Storm Lake police officers. The victim sustained minor chest abrasions, but did not require medical treatment.

A Woman Has Been Arrested In Storm Lake For Burglary And Assault

The Storm Lake Police Department has arrested an individual on warrants that stemmed from an incident on Sunday. According to authorities, 20-year-old Luz Elena Barron was taken into custody at approximately 10:35 a.m. at Citizens Community Credit Union. The warrants stem from an incident that happened Sunday evening at approximately 4:49 p.m. Law enforcement say Barron allegedly assaulted her estranged boyfriend outside his home in the 700 block of Hudson Street. She reportedly entered the residence and attempted to assault the victim until the family intervened. Officials say she fled the scene before officers arrived. On Tuesday morning, Barron was arrested by officers and booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on two charges of second-degree burglary, a class C felony, and assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor. Barron is being held on a $10,000 bond.

The Estherville-Lincoln Central baseball team beat Storm Lake 10-6 Wednesday night in Storm Lake giving the Midgets the 2022 Lakes Conference title. E-L-C sent eleven batters to the plate in the 2nd inning scoring five runs despite only getting one hit. That led to the exit of Tornado starter Hunter DeMey. Demey, who entered the game with only eleven walks allowed in 38 1/3 innings this season, walked a pair and hit three batters in that 2nd inning. Jake Eddie relieved DeMey and walked the first batter he faced but struck out the next two to get out of the inning.

Several Abondoned Cats and Kittens Rescued from Filthy Pocahontas County Residence

The Animal Rescue League of Iowa's Mobile Rescue Team recently spent hours removing 30 cats and kittens from deplorable conditions in a vacated Pocahontas County residence. According to the Pocahontas County Sheriff's Office, the rescue happened at a residence in Rolfe this past Friday. Information released on the Animal Rescue League website says the cats and kittens had been left by their owner inside the hot, filthy house, without any food or water. Floors, stairs, and some counter tops were covered with feces, urine, and trash. In one closet area, a layer of feces that was nearly one inch thick covered the floor. The news release states that the animals would not have survived much longer in those conditions.

Animal Rescue League Removes 30 Cats, Kittens From Pocahontas County Home

(Pocahontas, IA) — The Animal Rescue League says its Mobile Rescue Team has removed 30 cats and kittens from a vacant home in Pocahontas. The owner had left them behind in a hot, filthy house without food or water. Temperatures had been in the upper-80s and 90s and the house had no electricity and very little light was coming in. Rescuers say feces, urine, and trash covered the floors, stairs, and even some countertops. In one closet, the layer of feces covering the floor was nearly an inch thick. The cats and kittens are being treated by the A-R-L’s Miracle Medical Team. A news release says there is no way they would have survived much longer without food or water.

Storm Lake residents, as well as other users of the local water system, are reminded to conserve water as the demand situation continues to intensify. A well is down, and treatment facilities are struggling to keep up with demand as water use peaks in the hot, dry weather. Steps to control water use are becoming necessary. Residents are especially reminded to avoid watering lawns, gardens, and commercial properties from 8am to 8pm. Residents are asked to use a nozzle that will control flow to avoid wasting water.
