Demand slows for vaccines in Florida as state asks for doses to be sent elsewhere

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — The State of Florida is seeing an excess supply of vaccines, surpassing plateauing demand in many counties. As of June, the Florida Department of Health (DOH) has turned down 5.7 million vaccines doses from the federal government because counties, who request vaccine allotments from the state, haven’t expressed enough demand for those doses, according to a spokesperson.

COVID-19 vaccine sites close in 2 Central Florida counties

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. - Due to declining demand, two Central Florida counties are officially closing some COVID-19 vaccination sites on Saturday. In Seminole County, the locations at the Oviedo Mall and the Seminole County Library will close at 7 p.m. Health officials will continue to offer the vaccine at the Seminole County Health Department.

Florida's Covid Cases Continue to Drop, But Vaccination Rate Remains Below 60%

Florida's weekly COVID-19 cases continue to decline, as the state's vaccination rate remained below 60% in the latest report from the department of health. 166 deaths recorded in Florida after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine

Deaths after taking the COVID-19 vaccine total 3,049 across the US, with 166 deaths being in Florida, according to the National Vaccine Information Center.
