New independent bookstore set to open in downtown State College in August

A new independent bookstore is set to open in downtown State College in August. The Squirrel and Acorn Bookshop is said to be a place “where stories are discovered and created, voices heard and celebrated, and where imagination and a bit of whimsy are constant companions during your visit,” according to its Facebook page.

Heavy Truck Traffic Expected to Cause Delays, Noise Early Thursday Morning on West College Avenue

A concrete pour for a new apartment building under construction in Ferguson Township is expected to cause traffic delays and noise disturbance early Thursday morning. About 30 to 45 concrete trucks will be traveling and operating from 3 to 7 a.m. in the area of the West College Avenue and South Buckhout Street intersection, where the six-story mixed-use building Aspen West End is under construction at 914 W. College Ave.

2023 3-Star S TJ Metcalf Will Commit Friday; Penn State in top 4

First, Penn State got a commitment from TJ Parker, then DaKaari Nelson. Now, coach James Franklin and company are trying to grab another recruit out of the Yellowhammer State. TJ Metcalf, a Class of 2023 three-star safety out of Pinson Valley High School in Pinson, Alabama, is set to announce his commitment Friday, and Penn State is in his final four.

CM Football lends a hand to Lock Haven Kiwanis Club

LOCK HAVEN, PA- The Central Mountain Football team recently assisted the Lock Haven Kiwanis club unload over 5,000 pounds of blueberries. The team has been helping with this project since it’s inception and every year a number of team members come out to help with the huge undertaking of unloading and organizing the 10lb. boxes of fresh blueberries. The annual sale is a fundraiser for the local club and the proceeds allow the Kiwanis to support the children and non profits in Clinton County. The sale is preorder.

Steve Zegalia Memorial Golf Outing

The Steve Zegalia Memorial Golf Outing will celebrate their 10th consecutive event on July 9th at Corey Creek Country Club in Mansfield. The event was originally started by football alumni who attended MU (then Mansfield State College), in the 1970’s. Steve was an admired assistant football coach in the 1970’s under Coach Bernie Sabol and returned to Mansfield from 1985 to 1992 serving as an assistant under Coach Tom Elsasser. Steve died suddenly in 2003.

Ja’Keem Jackson, a Class of 2023 athlete out of Kissimmee, Florida has narrowed his school of choice down to six, and Penn State has made the list. Penn State is looking to continue its strong run recruiting in the south as they are in the running along with five Southeastern Conference schools.
