Natchitoches Shooting Kills Two and Injures One

The Natchitoches Police Department is investigating a shooting that killed two individuals and injured a third person early Saturday morning. On June 25, 2022 around 2:30 a.m., officers with the Natchitoches Police Department were dispatched to the 5100 block of University Parkway (French Market Express) in reference to a report of gunshots in the area. Upon officers arrival they located Marquis Evans, 21, of Natchitoches, Daniel Williams, 23, of Creston and another individual suffering from gunshot wounds.

City of Alexandria to send out estimated utility bills in July

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - Mayor Jeff Hall addressed the utility bill issues in Alexandria on Monday, saying there was a security incident with their computer system and they are still working with state officials on it. This has affected the utility database and the city can’t send out utility bills.

2 dead, 1 wounded in shooting at Natchitoches gas station

NATCHITOCHES, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Police are investigating a shooting that killed two people and injured a third at a Natchitoches gas station early Saturday morning. Police say officers were called to the French Market Express in the 5100 block of University Parkway around 2:30 a.m. to investigate reports of gunshots in the area. They arrived to find 21-year-old Marquis Evans of Natchitoches and 23-year-old Daniel Williams of Creston, and another unnamed victim suffering from gunshot wounds.

Man accuses fiancée of infidelity, chains her in bedroom, police say

LEESVILLE, La. (KPLC/Gray News) - Police say a Louisiana man chained his fiancée in the bedroom after he accused her of infidelity. Robert Allen McCrary, 30, is accused of placing an 8 1/2 foot chain around each of the woman’s wrists with padlocks, according to Vernon Parish Sheriff Sam Craft.

NSU gets approval to offer M.Ed. at reduced tuition rate

NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State University’s School of Education received approval for a rate reduction for individuals seeking a Master of Education in Education Leadership and Post Master’s Certificate in Education Leadership. NSU will charge $280 per credit hour for the M.Ed. and PMC, including tuition and fees. The new pricing structure will be available to all students who enroll and are coded as pursuing the Educational Leadership endorsement. The cost adjustment makes NSU’s program more competitive than other educational leadership programs in the region.

Victim shoots home invader with a shotgun, suspect arrested

The Natchitoches Police Department is investigating a home invasion on Sixth Street that resulted in the suspect being shot in the hand. On June 20 around 9:45 a.m., officers with the Natchitoches Police Department were dispatched to the 900 block of Sixth Street in reference to a home invasion. Upon the officer’s arrival, they located Brandon Bernstine, the suspect, (B/M, 33 y.o.a. of Natchitoches) suffering from a gunshot wound to his hand. Brandon Bernstine was transported to the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center for further treatment.

Lake Charles Trooper placed on leave following off-duty DWI arrest

Last week, Louisiana State Police Troop D was contacted by the Atlanta Police Department in reference to the arrest of an off-duty Louisiana State Trooper. Officials with the Atlanta Police Department indicated that 34-year-old Aubin Young of Lake Charles was arrested for DWI and other traffic charges following a traffic stop.

Literary June at the Storybook Café

The month of June marks the beginning of a most welcome addition to the Natchitoches arts and literary scene. “Literary June” was a series of literary and poetry readings held at Natchitoches’ Storybook Café’ intended to spotlight Central Louisiana writers and poets. There were four readings throughout the month in which featured writers and poets would present their works to an audience at the café. There was also an open mic in which anyone could come up and present. The series has proved quite popular, filling the Storybook Café to capacity.
