Jury selection in progress for trial of David Hampton, accused of killing 79-year-old Celestino Rodriguez

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - A jury is being selected for the capital murder trial of David Wayne Hampton, accused of killing 79-year-old Celestino Rodriguez back in 2019. Police say Hampton, 55, was one of seven people allegedly involved in the disappearance and murder of Rodriguez. If convicted, he will face life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.

The Owls Café in Hale Center has officially closed after 17 years in business. A come-and-go Appreciation Party is set for Friday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Lemond Center, 110 E. BOB EDWARDS CELEBRATED 89 YEARS Saturday, April 23, when he was treated royally by his family, to a Birthday Celebration in the Ag and Community Center. Edwards was born in Littlefield on April 21, 1933, and many of his relatives came to help him celebrate again this year. He is shown visitng a relative, Leon Reed, his wife’s cousin from Anton. Edwards said they fed 231 people last year, and received $2,517 in cash, along with the food for the New Mexico Children’s Home. He was hoping the turnout would be much better this year. GUMBALL GUESSING WINNER— During March the Lamb County Library held a Bubble Gum Jar Guessing Contest. Patrons of all ages were welcome to guess how many bubble gums were in the jar. At the end of the month, the winner, Kellen Meredith, 11, of Anton, was announced. Kellen guessed 170 bubble gums, and there were 171 bubble gums in the jar.
