Five face domestic battery charges

EDWARDSVILLE - Multiple domestic battery charges were filed in separate cases Monday by the Madison County State's Attorney's Office. Anthony S. Dell, 46, of Maryville, was charged May 16 with aggravated domestic battery, a Class 2 felony; and domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor. The case was presented by the Maryville Police Department.

Marshals initiative makes 152 arrests

ALTON — More than 150 arrests and 60 gun seizures have been reported during March by the U.S. Marshals Service, Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force. The multi-agency law enforcement operation included the Madison County Sheriff's Department and the Alton and Granite City police departments. The effort focused on Madison and St. Clair counties, as well as the Centralia region.

Fundraiser set for family of girl who died in fire

WHITE HALL — A White Hall gym is holding a fundraiser May 22 for a family who lost their child in a fire. Hurt Fitness is hosting “Do it for Danika,” a set of four group workout sessions, to raise money for the Alderfers, who lost their 11-month-old daughter, Danika, in a March 31 house fire. The fire also took the life of 77-year-old Nancy L. Hillis.

Wood River appoints two and approves equipment purchases

The Wood River City Council made two appointments on Monday night, filling two big jobs in the city. After two years working as an assistant to the Wood River city clerk and building and zoning department, Danielle Sneed was named the new city clerk while Nate Kamp was appointed as the Deputy Fire Chief.

St. Charles to vote on new plan to ease bar restrictions

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV) - The city of St. Charles could vote on a new plan to ease some restrictions on bars along the historic Main Street Tuesday evening. Over the past couple of years, there have been several ideas thrown around to fix crime in St. Charles. One of those ideas produced an app called “Show Me ID”. The app makes it so that every bouncer would scan an ID making sure it was real to cut down on underage drinking.

Edwardsville, Alton men indicted as armed habitual criminals

EDWARDSVILLE - Two Madison County men have been indicted as armed habitual criminals. Daryl J. Harper, 45, of Edwardsville, was indicted as an armed habitual criminal, and also indicted for armed violence and unlawful possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine; all Class X felonies; unlawful possession of methamphetamine precursor, a Class 2 felony; and unlawful possession of weapons by a felon, a Class 3 felony. Marcus D. James, 36, of Alton, was indicted for being an armed habitual criminal, a Class X felony; unlawful possession of weapons by a felon, a Class 2 felony; and two counts of aggravated battery, both Class 3 felonies. The indictments came in two separate cases.

Alton church marking 185th anniversary May 22

ALTON - A church founded by former slaves will be marking its 185th anniversary this Sunday. Members of Union Baptist Church will gather at Best Western Premier Hotel, 3559 College Ave., in Alton at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 22 to celebrate this event with a banquet. Current Pastor Kelvin Ellison, will also celebrate 2022 as his 23rd year as pastor. He took over after the previous paster, John Oliver, passed away in 1999. According the Ellison, what sets the church apart is "the love and affection we have for people, regardless of race, creed or color".

East Alton man facing meth charge

EDWARDSVILLE - An East Alton man is facing a Class X methamphetamine-related felony after a May 12 incident. Noah R. Frymire, 38, of the 100 block of Goulding, East Alton, was charged May 13 with unlawful possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, a Class X felony.

The College of Wooster baseball team’s 2022 season will continue, with the Fighting Scots announced as one of the 18 Pool C (at-large) selections by the NCAA when the 60-team championship field was released on Monday afternoon. Wooster is off to Lloyd Hopkins Field in Alton, Illinois, to take part in the Webster University (Missouri) four-team, double-elimination regional.
