After 39 years running Ward’s Store & Bakery, Patti Ward has made the hard decision to put the business up for sale. “I’ve made a very difficult decision with lots of prayers and the guidance of God to sell my historic family business,” said Patti. “In my heart I know this is the best thing to do for De Smet to revitalize with new blood. I will miss my business. I have worked at this store since I could read the numbers on the cash register. Our store has been in my family for 65 years.”

MITCHELL – Post 8 split a doubleheader with Mitchell Post 18 in Legion baseball Wednesday at Cadwell Park, winning the first game 14-11 before dropping the nightcap 9-4. Post 8 led 9-2 in the first game before Mitchell scored six in the fourth. The Eights then scored three in the sixth and two more in the seventh. George Stalley, Bennett Dean, Jayden Wiebe and Brecken Krueger drove in two runs each. Krueger had three hits. Post 8 had 14 hits and 10 walks. Isaac Polak worked the first two innings on the mound for the win.

Trinity Palmquist grew up in a household with two older sisters who were athletic and competitive. Trinity grew up watching her sisters Saddie and Maddie compete. The youngest of the trio had no choice but to pick up a basketball or golf club and try to keep up with her elder siblings.

Bernice died Saturday, June 25, at her home under hospice care. Funeral services will be Friday, July 1 at 3 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Servicemen’s Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Elizabeth died Thursday, June 23, 2022, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, June 30, at Mitchell Congregational United Church of Christ in Mitchell. Allen McManus, 74, of Mitchell, SD, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2022 from natural causes. A memorial service will be 2:00 PM Thursday, June 30, at Bittner Funeral Chapel.
