Public input takes over Bayard council meeting

Public input dominated during the Bayard City Council meeting Monday, which was preceded by a work session primarily focused on a sidewalk project and changing staff policy. During the work session, Clerk-Treasurer Kristina Ortiz explained that the city’s ongoing sidewalk project faced issues due to the locations of utility poles. She said that the New Mexico Department of Transportation has required that the city coordinate with utility companies on possibly moving the poles, which could cause further issues because “they’re in really tight spots.”

The camp will cover the basic skills and fundamentals of Wildcat Football over the two-day period. Due to successful fire extinguishing efforts, the Black Fire is now managed by a local Type 3 team led by incident commander, Joe Sampson. The Black Fire’s phone number and email address is no longer active. For future updates, contact the Gila National Forest at 575-388-8201 or the local Public Information Officer, Larry.smith@usda.gov. The Black Fire emergency closure on National Forest System lands around the Black Fire area remains in effect. Route 152 is open from mile marker 40 (Kingston) to mile marker 15 (San Lorenzo). Visitors are requested to continue to practice caution in the area and be aware of increased fire traffic. The Gila National Forest has lifted all fire restrictions, but visitors must remember that fireworks are NEVER permitted on National Forests.
