Arrest made in Fayette County killing

FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. — A man was arrested and faces charges including felony murder and aggravated assault in a Wednesday morning killing in Fayette County. According to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched to a home on Forrest Lake Drive just before 2 a.m. "in reference to a verbal altercation in progress."

After the polls close tonight in Fayette County, The Citizen will be reporting the vote counting of local contested races and high profile district and statewide contests. One statewide race with a local politician competing in a crowded field is the Democrat race for the lieutenant governor nomination. State Representative Derrick Jackson (D-Tyrone) gave up a safe seat to compete for a statewide office. Eight other candidates are also in that race that likely will result in a runoff.

AVPRIDE grants scholarships to three Fayette County graduating seniors

At its annual End of Year Ceremony on May 18, 2022, 25-year-old Fayette County nonprofit AVPRIDE awarded three graduating seniors scholarships for continuing education. McIntosh High School students LynnAnn Koh and Jocelyn Wang were both recipients of the Pota Estel Coston Memorial Scholarship, which honors AVPRIDE’s dedicated Youth Programs Manager and Fayette County Commissioner who passed away in 2015. A graduate of Marshall University, the Honorable Pota Coston’s passion was public service and youth development. Students get sneak peek of new kids show

When the makers of a new animated kids show wanted feedback for their creation, they turned to students from Fayette County Public Schools for their expert opinion. Cozmo and Friends is a fun and educational new series about robots with lots of focus on STEM and coding in particular. Metro Fayette Kiwanis Club hosted their annual awards ceremony for the “Most Improved Fifth Grader” at First Baptist Church’s fellowship hall in Fayetteville on May 3rd. More than 130 were in attendance which included teachers, parents, relatives, and friends. Students were nominated with one selected from each of the 14 elementary schools in Fayette County. Selections were made based, not exclusively on improvements in academics, but also in leadership, citizenship, and supporting students and teachers during the academic year.
